Our visit from Harold

This week our friend Harold brought Kaaren to school to talk to us about our lungs and what we need to have to be happy and healthy! It was great to learn in the big caravan. We learnt about how we breath in oxygen and we get oxygen from trees and how we breath out carbon dioxide. Kaaren and Harold also told us about the 9 things we need to be happy and healthy - do you remember what these 9 things are?! n

Cooking with Paty

On Friday we had Discovery Time. Paulina's mum came to do some cooking with us using the cauliflower from the garden! We all had a turn at chopping, cooking, slicing, mixing and tasting! We made a Mexican dish called Butter Caulifower! It was delicious!

Colour!

We made these colour wheels. We learnt that there are hot colours: yellow, red and orange. We also learnt about cold colours: blue, green and purple. Next we made these Taniwhai using our Drama of 'The Taniwhai and the 3 Woolly Coats Fluff' as inspiration. We coloured our Taniwhai by using complimentary colours. These colours are opposite on the colour wheel: red and green, yellow and purple, blue and orange. Haven't we produced quality work!

In the weekend...

These handsome boys have been working hard on their writing. Their goals for writing are to: write across the line, use finger spaces, use their alphabet card to help write tricky words and letter sounds. They were so proud when they got sent to Mrs Te Amo to show off their author skills! Didn't they do well!
Being the best we can be on PhotoPeach We have been talking about being 'kind and responsible for ourselves, each other and our environment'. We took photos of us following and not following this statement. Can you tell which person in the photo is and isn't?

Our Dance

Last term we explored dance with Dean. We learnt about rhythms and beats, half time, in time and double speed. We learnt about how we can be creative with our bodies by ourselves or in a group. We created our dance, this is called choreography, we will share our dance, this is called execute. We hope you, as our audience, enjoy our dance!

St Jame's Day and Grandparents Day

We had a lovely time of Friday combining our Feast Day with Grandparents Day. We celebrated with a liturgy and a shared lunch, followed by an amazing show case of Talents organised by Mrs Cawood. We shared the dance we had been learning with Dean. We loved our special day! Our Feast Day and Grandparents Day on PhotoPeach

Holy Spirit

We are learning about the Holy Spirit.  Today we talked about water and how it reminds people of the Holy Spirit of God.
We talked about the way the Holy Spirit is like water: it gives us life, it helps us grow, it fills us up no matter what size we are.
Here are some of the prayers we shared this morning:
Loving God,
Thank you for the water that we can drink and it makes us feel better
Thank you for the water in the river for the fish to swim in
Thank you for the water in the sea that we can play in
Thank you for the water that we can wash in
Thank you for the water that we can be baptised in

Basic Facts

We are trying our best to learn our basic facts to 5. We have been practicing these as part of our 'Home Learning'. We know that if we reverse the two addition numbers, the answer will be the same. Mum and Dad, can you help me practice these at home please! 1+2 4+1 3+2 0+1 2+0 3+1 2+1 1+0 2+2 2+3 0+4 1+4
Mrs G made this Photopeach slideshow of our Mother's Day cards. We also had to write about why we love our special Mums. We hope you enjoy these images.

Our First Discovery Time

We had an incredible middle block at our first Discovery Time on Friday. We made toast by ourselves, made paper dolls and our own books, did construction, used equipment to develop our gross motor skills, gardened with Mrs Edwards and painted! We were very good at managing ourselves and participating. We loved our first Discovery Time and can't wait until next week!

Football with Shane Rufer

This term the Junior school are developing their football skills on a Friday. Today we practised our football skills.

Reading about acceptance

During our Connected  Curriculum learning we have been exploring "Acceptance" and what it means. Today during reading time we read A Home For Little Teddy. Finn said "The other animals aren't showing acceptance!" Great connection Finn!

Writing

Mrs G brought in some swan plants for our 'Discover' table. We looked closely at them and diacovered little white balls on them. One day we went to look at the balls and discovered tiny caterpillars in their place! We watched them grow, they got fatter and longer! Now the caterpillars have gone and left behind are chrysalis!
We made these crayon and dye pictures to show the changes that happen during the life cycle. We published a fact about butterflies underneath!

Strive

We have a new acronym at school : SAINTS

We have been learning about what the first letter S stands for. Mrs G told us it is for
Strive!
We did lots of talking and learning about what this means and made this poster to show our learning!
